Here are some basic tips:
* Keep your carving out of direct sunlight. For the first few months do not put your carving in a window that gets lots of sunlight or outside in the direct summer sun. This will allow the carving to dry slowly and help protect it from large cracks.
* Avoid displaying your carving by dry heat sources such as wood stoves, fireplaces, heating ducts and sunny windows.
* Protect the floor under your carving to avoid staining from the moisture leaving the wood. Should you notice some mildew on your carving, simply wipe clean, this will eventually subside.
* If placed outside (out of direct sunlight) your carving will weather naturally and should be kept off of wet ground.
* As your carving dries out and ages you may see some cracks develop. Cracking and checking is a normal occurance in wood, a characteristic. If you get a large crack it can be filled and repainted, if you have any concerns, please call and Danny will suggest what can be done.
